The Death of American Universities

As universities move towards a corporate business model, precarity is being imposed by force.
hat’s part of the business model. It’s the same as hiring temps in industry or what they call “associates” at Walmart, employees that aren’t owed benefits. It’s a part of a corporate business model designed to reduce labor costs and to increase labor servility. When universities become corporatized, as has been happening quite systematically over the last generation as part of the general neoliberal assault on the population, their business model means that what matters is the bottom line.
The effective owners are the trustees (or the legislature, in the case of state universities), and they want to keep costs down and make sure that labor is docile and obedient. The way to do that is, essentially, temps. Just as the hiring of temps has gone way up in the neoliberal period, you’re getting the same phenomenon in the universities.
The idea is to divide society into two groups. One group is sometimes called the “plutonomy” (a term used by Citibank when they were advising their investors on where to invest their funds), the top sector of wealth, globally but concentrated mostly in places like the United States. The other group, the rest of the population, is a “precariat,” living a precarious existence.
This idea is sometimes made quite overt. So when Alan Greenspan was testifying before Congress in 1997 on the marvels of the economy he was running, he said straight out that one of the bases for its economic success was imposing what he called “greater worker insecurity.” If workers are more insecure, that’s very “healthy” for the society, because if workers are insecure they won’t ask for wages, they won’t go on strike, they won’t call for benefits; they’ll serve the masters gladly and passively. And that’s optimal for corporations’ economic health.

This article examines in what degree, the conduct of intelligence by paramilitary groups resemble or differ from national intelligence. Paramilitary is a militarised force whose function, is similar to a professional military but is not considered part of a state's formal armed forces. Specifically, this essay will focus on terrorist intelligence. It will trace different terrorist groups, examining the basic rational and doctrine that precedes its operational actions. The article will prove that the level of sophistication and meticulously planning of operations of a lot of sub-state groups can be compared with this of their state counterparts. While some "hostile reconnaissance" is amateurish, and easily detected, a significant amount is professional and very difficult to detect. It seems that a lot of sub state actors have learned that in order for an operation to be successful, good intelligence plays a vital role. Δύο σεμινάρια σε ‘Αγκυρα και Φόρειν ΄Οφις και η διπλωματία των βόθρων!
Πρόσφατα έλαβαν χώρα δύο σεμινάρια για μας δίχως εμάς. Ένα στην Άγκυρα στις 28 Φεβρουαρίου 2015 και το άλλο στο Φόρειν ΄Οφις στο Λονδίνο στις 2 Μαρτίου 2015. Αμφότερα στόχευαν στην εξυπηρέτηση τουρκικών στόχων και αυτό ένας μπορεί εύκολα να συμπεράνει αν λάβει υπόψη τα όσα λέχθηκαν στο προηγηθέν σεμινάριο στις 28 Φεβρουαρίου 2015 στην Άγκυρα με έντονη την βρετανική συμβολή. Α) Κλείσιμο του Κυπριακού για να βοηθηθεί η προβληματική ενταξιακή πορεία της Τουρκίας και να καμφθούν οι αντιρρήσεις της Κυπριακής Κυβέρνησης για άνοιγμα κεφαλαίων και β) να βάλει χέρι και πόδι η Τουρκία ως συνέταιρος στην εκμετάλλευση των υδρογονανθράκων της Κύπρου μέσω των κατεχομένων με λύση που προσδοκά η Τουρκία. Και που όλοι όσοι έλαβαν μέρος ευελπιστούν στην αναγνώριση του παράνομου μορφώματος μέσω της ρατσιστικής ΔΔΟ με πολιτική ισότητα (δύο κράτη).
Σεμινάριο στο Φόρειν ΄Οφις 2.3.2015
Στις 6 Μαρτίου 2015 με ανταπόκρισή μου στο Ράδιο Πρώτο στη Λευκωσία, αναφέρθηκα στο σεμινάριο που διοργανώθηκε στις 2 Μαρτίου 2015 στο Υπ. Εξωτερικών και Κοινοπολιτείας στο Λονδίνο, δηλαδή την ίδια μέρα το βράδυ της οποίας μίλησε ο Ε/κ διαπραγματευτής κ. Ανδρέας Μαυρογιάννης στο LSE. Τέτοιο σεμινάριο πρώτη φορά έγινε, με οικοδεσπότη το Βρετανό Υφυπουργό Ευρώπης κ. Ντέιβιντ Λίττινγτον, και με φιλοξενούμενους το Κυπριακό Επιμελητήριο και το παράνομο τουρκοκυπριακό αντίστοιχο.
Στο σεμινάριο, που οργανώθηκε αθόρυβα και δίχως προκαταρτική ανακοίνωση και που αποφασίστηκε κατά την τελευταία επίσκεψη του κ. Λίττινγτον στην Κύπρο, παρευρέθηκαν και μίλησαν ο κ. Φειδίας Πηλείδης, πρόεδρος του Κυπριακού Εμπορικού και Βιομηχανικού Επιμελητηρίου και ο κ. Φικρί Τόρος, πρόεδρος του ούτω καλούμενου Τουρκοκυπριακού Εμπορικού Επιμελητηρίου, με θέμα τα οφέλη από την επίλυση του Κυπριακού και τον ρόλο των Επιμελητηρίων. Ο κ. Πηλείδης μίλησε για οφέλη για τις δύο κοινότητες από μια βιώσιμη λύση στην Κύπρο, αλλά και για την ευρύτερη περιοχή που εμπερικλείει την Ελλάδα, την Τουρκία και τη Μέση Ανατολή… (Υπενθυμίζεται ότι στο πρόσφατο παρελθόν είχε ξεσπάσει θύελλα αντιδράσεων στην Κύπρο με ένα φιλμάκι που πρόβαλε το Κυπριακό Επιμελητήριο με ξένες χρηματοδοτήσεις με την προσυπογραφή και του νομπελίστα κ. Χρ. Πισσαρίδη, με στόχο να πεισθούμε οι Έλληνες της Κύπρου «πόσο πλούσιοι θα γίνουμε και τι καλά που θα είναι όταν συνεργαστούμε επιχειρηματικά με την Τουρκία μετά από μια λύση ΔΔΟ…»).

Next month is the 100th anniversary of the start of the Armenian genocide during which the Ottoman-Turkish government murdered one and a half million of its Armenian citizens. Obscured by the horror of the 20th century’s first genocide is the role that the Armenian holocaust played in the events leading to the creation of Israel or that it was the backdrop to an extraordinary love story.

It began on April 24, 1915. The pretext was that the Armenians were supporting Ottoman-Turkey’s enemy, Russia, but one purpose was to fulfill pan-Islamic dreams of a huge Islamic state from the Mediterranean to the Ural Mountains. Orders had gone out to “without mercy and without pity, kill all from the one month old to the ninety-year old.” Armenian political leaders, educators, writers, clergy, and dignitaries were rounded up and tortured and then hanged or shot.
With the leadership gone, the Turks followed up by arresting Armenian men en masse, marching them out of their towns, and, with the aid of mobs and bandits, hacking them to death with axes, pitchforks, hoes, iron rods, and hatchets. Then it was the turn of the Armenian women, children, and the elderly, who were pulled from their homes and forced on death marches into the scorching Syrian desert.
Soon the Turkish countryside became so littered with decomposing bodies that the government told provincial leaders to “issue the strictest instructions so that the corpses in your village are buried.” In general, these instructions were ignored.
In November 1915, Sarah Aaronsohn, a homesick young 25-year-old Palestinian Jew unhappily married to a Bulgarian Jewish businessman, fled her husband’s home in Constantinople while he was away on a business trip. She set out by train for her home in Palestine. But first she had to cross Turkey.
